Joseph Casartelli - Manchester. 19th Century brass-cased PHNB aneroid barometer with exposed movement
Fine 19th Century 5inch [13cm] diameter brass cased aneroid barometer. The dial bearing retailer Casartelli’s signature and the PHNB logo, with central cut out, revealing the aneroid movement, and protected by bevelled plate glass. PHNB stamped on verso. Casartelli took over the successful barometer-making business of Ronchetti in 1852, and continued the business at 43 Market St. until 1896. The firm of Pertuis, Hulot & Naudet Barometres was pre-eminent in the development and manufacture of aneroid barometers during the latter 19th Century.
