Elegant mid-19th Century mahogany Marine Stick Barometer; with ring suspension over engraved ivory maker’s plate and matching barometer plates, the vernier operated by rack-and-pinion mechanism. The slender trunk, square in cross-section with bowed sides, inset with Fahrenheit thermometer, concealing original barometer tube and terminating in turned brass cistern cover. Mounted on contemporary brass gimbals. A partnership between two former employees of Janet Taylor, William Reynolds and Frederick Wiggins, operating from No. 5 John St., Minories from 1843-57.
