Short & Mason - London. Excellent rope-twist oak cased Aneroid barometer / thermometer.

An excellent 10-inch diameter oak-cased “rope-twist” aneroid barometer. The very realistic carving much superior to the many subsequent copies by other makers. The well-engraved, silvered brass dial, 6 inches in diameter, with engine-turned central motif and red-highlighted capital letters, signed by the makers and bearing curved Fahrenheit and Centigrade mercury thermometer. Protected by bevelled plate glass mounted in cast brass bezel, secured by threaded rods through to the back. The movement is compensated for temperature. Short and Mason were amongst the leading early manufacturers of barometers and barographs, working from premises in Hatton Garden.
