An exceptional, early and rare 18th Century oak-cased Stick Barometer; the moulded, arched hood, surmounted by a trio of ‘ball-and spire’ finials. The silvered brass register plates [typical of the first part of the 18th Century], flanked by twin columns with ball drop-finials beneath, engraved with “wheat-ear” border decoration and bearing “Summer” and “Winter” weather notations. The solid oak trunk, with moulded edges, and the exposed barometer tube terminating within unusual turned cistern cover, typical of the period. Replaced finials; cistern possibly original.
