Attractive mid-19th Century walnut cased Thermometer. [14in. 36cm] The case is carved with well executed floral decoration and is inset with brass-trimmed, engraved ivory Fahrenheit and Réaumur alcohol thermometer with ‘tear-drop’ bulb.
Dixey acquired the optical instrument making firm of Mary Jones in 1842, with retail premises at 241 Oxford St. On his retirement in 1874, the business continued into the 20th Century under the proprietorship of his son, also William.
