Elegant and very fine quality 18th Century mahogany Stick Barometer in essentially original condition, the arched top with well engraved silvered brass register plates, protected by unusual glazed brass door, signed by the maker within attractive banner cartouche; bearing manually operated vernier slide and supported on attractive open fretwork side brackets. The trunk of finely patinated 'flame' mahogany, with concealed cistern barometer tube terminating within hemispherical cistern cover.

One of the ablest of 18th Century Instrument makers, Martin worked from premises in Fleet St. from 1756-82.
