Fine early 19th Century Cuban mahogany Stick Barometer with 'swan-neck' pediment over signed, engraved silvered brass register plate, bearing mercury Fahrenheit thermometer, manually operated vernier slide and protected by glazed lockable door. The trunk, edge-moulded and veneered in figured mahogany with original concealed barometer tube terminating behind turned cistern cover.
John Bleuler [1756-1829] was apprenticed to the eminent instrument maker, Henry Shuttleworth in 1771, then worked independently from 1791 until 1822, making a wide range of high quality optical and mathematical instruments.
