An excellent, early 19th Century, flat-to-the-wall, figured mahogany bow-front stick Barometer. The swan-neck pediment over finely engraved, silvered brass register plates, signed by the maker, and with rack-and-pinion operated vernier slide. The trunk, of well figured mahogany, strung with ebony, concealing offset cistern barometer tube, terminating within urn-shaped cistern cover.


A noted Mathematical Instrument-maker with retail premises at 3 New Bond St. from c1780-1818. The business was inherited, and continued to prosper, successively, by two ex-apprentices, William Hawkes Grice and the illustrious Charles Wastell Dixey.
