Most elegant early 19th Century Cuban mahogany Stick Barometer in original condition; the case with arched top; the silvered brass register plate, classically engraved, signed by the makers, and bearing manually operated vernier slide; the trunk, edge moulded, with attractively patinated figured mahogany veneers and the original exposed barometer tube terminating within hemispherical cistern cover. c1820 An illustrious partnership between Jeremiah Watkins and William Hill, which prospered from premises at 5 Charing Cross from 1819 until 1856, when it was acquired by Elliott Brothers.
