Impressive, very attractive and most unusual 18th Century Wheel Barometer, the arched top case of richly patinated figured mahogany, triple-strung in ebony and boxwood, with cross-grained edges and inset with very finely engraved silvered brass barometer dial, signed by the maker and protected by glazed, knurled, brass bezel.

Gatty was one of the most outstanding of Italian immigrant barometer makers of the latter 18th and early 19th Centuries, working from premises at 130 and 132 High Holborn from c1785-1820. He is now, perhaps, the most sought-after Wheel-barometer maker.
