An exceptional, late 18th Century mahogany Stick Barometer; the front-to-back overhanging ‘swan-neck’ pediment, supported on side brackets. The well-engraved silvered brass register plate, signed by the makers, with rack-and-pinion operated vernier and protected by lockable glazed door. The trunk, of figured Cuban mahogany, ebony banded and inset with long mercury Fahrenheit thermometer. The concealed barometer tube terminating behind turned cistern cover. A renowned firm of instrument makers, operating from premises in High Holborn, London from 1788-1860.
